A forum tonight will feature two of the three candidates for the City Council’s Ward 7 seat and all six candidates for the Board of Estimate and Taxation. It’s expected to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis, 410 Oak Grove.
Featured in the Ward 7 forum will be futures trader and citizen journalist Michael Katch and baggage handler and music video producer Jeff Wagner. Incumbent Council Member Lisa Goodman won’t attend because of a scheduling conflict.
The ward covers almost all of Downtown, as well as the Kenwood, Lowry Hill, Bryn Mawr and Cedar-Isles-Dean neighborhoods. For information on the race, click here.
The candidates for Board of Estimate and Taxation are Humphrey Institute Finance Director Carol Becker, mortgage broker Michael Martens, property tax watchdog James Elliot Swartwood, service engineer DeWayne Townsend, former Duluth City Council Member David Wheeler and community activist Phil Willkie. (For more information about the candidates, click here.)
The Taxation Board has several tasks, including managing the city’s debt, auditing the city’s books and setting the annual maximum property tax levies for the city and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. Six people sit on the board: A Park Board commissioner, the mayor, two City Council members and the two separately elected representatives.
