The Kingfield Neighborhood Association (KFNA) is holding a community meeting on Oct. 22 to discuss a possible dog park in Martin Luther King Park located north of West 42nd between Nicollet and Interstate 35W. The meeting will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. at MLK Park.
A group of neighbors began organizing last winter after several dog owners were faced with hefty fines for having their pets off-leash in the park. Despite having one of the highest densities of registered dogs in Minneapolis, the area is located in one of two park districts without a dog park. The group is asking for reactions and input from community members to help to develop its proposal further.
Opposition to the proposal for an off-leash area in Martin Luther King Park includes concern for park users’ safety and hesitation with placing another facility in a park that is already packed with recreational amenities.
