Ward 7 covers almost all of Downtown, as well as the Kenwood, Lowry Hill, Bryn Mawr and Cedar-Isles-Dean neighborhoods. The candidates for this City Council seat are:
Lisa Goodman: On the council since 1998, Goodman has been a key player on issues such as underground parking Downtown and the creation of dog parks. Her governing style has gained her a fair share of notoriety, and a judge recently ruled she was biased when considering a proposed condo tower in Loring Park.
Michael Katch: Almost always at or watching government meetings, Katch has long been tuned into City Hall. He says the city needs to better listen to its constituents and do more than play into developers’ hands. He also wants code inspections to be less predatory.
Jeff Wagner: A relatively new resident of Loring Park, Wagner says Minneapolis would benefit from becoming “a 5 a.m. kind of town.” Active in the local music scene, he wants the city to help create a Downtown nightlife scene more reminiscent of Miami, where he previously lived.
