STEVENS SQUARE — The celebration of the do-it-yourself publishing that is Twin Cities Zinefest returns this weekend to Stevens Square Center for the Arts, 1905 3rd Ave. S.
Zines are typified by idiosyncratic subject matter, photocopier production and small print runs. First held in 2004, Zinefest is an annual opportunity for zine makers and readers to meet, talk shop and swap zines.
The list of exhibitors reflects the broad range of subject matter to be found in zines, including poetry, autobiography, punk rock, radical politics and photography.
This year’s lineup of self-publishers, though, draws heavily from the local comics scene. Among the artists scheduled to exhibit are Tom Kaczynski, a regular contributor to the comics anthology MOME, and the local mini-comics artist known as King Mini.
Twin Cities Zinefest runs 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday, July 11, and 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Sunday, July 12. The event is free and open to the public.
Visit the Zinefest website for the event schedule and a full list of exhibitors.
