Documentary explores sustainable foods

THE WEDGE — “Fresh,” a documentary on the sustainable food movement, will have its Minneapolis premier June 2 at Bryan-Lake Bowl, 810 W. Lake St.

Director Ana Sofia Joanes focused her camera on the farmers and activists who are turning away from industrial agriculture to alternatives they believe are healthier and better for the environment. Twin Cities Natural Food Co-ops joined with Birchwood Café, Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy and Land Stewardship Project to present the film.

The 6:30 p.m. screening of “Fresh” at Bryan-Lake Bowl will be followed by a panel discussion featuring: food writer Jeremy Iggers; Kristen Tombers, owner of Clancy’s Meat and Fish; Sandy and Lonny Dietz of Whitewater Gardens; Rhys Williams of the Land Stewardship project; and Joanes.

The film shows again at 9 p.m. that night, and 7 p.m June 3 at Riverview Theater. Watch a trailer at
