Lyndale Avenue from 50th Street to Minnehaha Parkway closed today, a month ahead of schedule, for reconstruction and will be closed until late May.
Crews began work on Lyndale after other parts of the reconstruction plan finished early, project engineer Don Schaffer said.
Schaffer said construction on the southern stretch of the project would finish around May 20 with the road reopening a couple of days before Memorial Day.
The entire 2.6-mile project, which runs from 31st Street to the parkway is set to finish later this year, with the road opening in October, Schaffer said. Some tree and sidewalk work might not be finished until next year, he said.
During construction this season, Lyndale will have a bump-out between 50th Street and 38th Street for protected parking. There will also be a raised concrete median with trees and grass between 38th Street and 31st Street.
