Three-year neighborhood plan approved

LYNDALE — The Lyndale Neighborhood Association (LNA) last month approved a strategic plan meant to guide the organization’s direction through 2011. Some of LNA’s goals laid out in the plan include being the “go-to” source for the neighborhood and having “an active, diverse cross-section of community members working to improve their neighborhood.” The entire plan can be viewed at www.lyndale.org.

No budging on light rail

WHITTIER — The Whittier Alliance reaffirmed its opposition to light rail on Nicollet Avenue, and would not support a line down Blaisdell or 1st avenues, either.

The Executive Board voted March 27 to oppose those alternate alignments for the Southwest Transitway Light Rail Corridor. They previously opposed the so-called 3C alignment on Nicollet Avenue because of its potential negative impact on small businesses of Eat Street.

Recently proposed variations on 3C would route light rail down residential streets in Whittier, a source of concern for many neighborhood residents. The neighborhood’s official position supports light rail in the Kennilworth Corridor on the western edge of Southwest.
