MNfashion Week showcases local design talent

MNfashion Week is this week, and with clothing sales, designer meet-and-greets and Voltage, a rock’n’roll fashion show at First Avenue, there’s sure to be something to satisfy every fashion fanatic. Check out the MNfashion Week events going on in Downtown and Southwest this week.

Today

Twin City Scene Mixer
What: To kick off Fashion Week, the art and culture bloggers of TwinCityScene.com will provide free wine and beer, designer Arwyn Birch will show some of her fashions, and Juleana Enright from Sercrets of the City, also known as DJ Julie Grind, will provide music.
When: Event runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Tuesday, April 21

“Suffocate”
What: Designer Laura Fulk’s spring collection runway show. Her line features textiles created by painter Melissa Breitenfeldt and tattoo artist Jay Langer.
When: A reception will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with the show starting at 8 p.m.
Where: Lab Theater, 700 1st Avenue North

Wednesday, April 22

Red Shoe Clothing Company’s “The Walk.”
What: Kerry Riley of the Red Shoe Clothing Company will be leading this moving fashion installation with styled models walking over bridges and through traffic in Minneapolis.  
When & Where: Times and locations will be released on www.redshoeclothing.com later this week, but the event will be followed by a reception at 7 p.m. at Cliché, 2403 Lyndale Avenue South

Sky Park Fashion Mixer
What: Join l’etoile magazine and Secrets of the City for an evening of cocktails and mingling. Appetizers will be provided by Joe’s Garage, and drinks by Sacre Bleu Wine and Crispin on Ice. Enter to win prizes, including a pair of tickets to Voltage: Fashion Amplified on Friday.

Via’s Vintage Sale
What: Via’s Vintage is offering 10 percent off their entire stock to celebrate fashion week. Also, customers will receive a free screen-printed canvas shopping bag with their purchase. There will be an evening reception with designers Sarah Holm of Reevolution and Holly Luke and Jen Des Lauriers of Vintage City Classics.

Voltage: Fashion Amplified
What: One of the biggest events of Fashion Week, this concert/runway show showcases local designers and musicians in a unique way at First Avenue. Designers will style the bands that perform during the event, and a runway show accompanies each performance. The featured bands will be Mercurial Rage, Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles, Gospel Gossip, First Communion, Afterparty and Maria Isa, and the designers will be 2709, Allison Quinnell, Amanda Christine, Arwyn Birch, Calpurnia Peach, Carmichael Claith, Emily Weich, Ivan Idland, Maritza Ramirez and Max Lohrbach.

Cliché Open House
What: Uptown clothing boutique Cliché will be hosting an open house featuring designs by local designers, including some featured in Voltage: Fashion Amplified. There will be a reception for mingling with local designers and models with music in the evening.

When: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., the reception will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Gray Matter: A Grayline Release party
What: Design Collective will showcase Grayline Clothing’s spring collection, inspired by “nature, patterns, early 1900s art nouveau and childhood fascinations.” The line will feature screen-printed clothing for women and men. Also available at the party will be the clothing worn by Mercurial Rage from Voltage: Fashion Amplified.

Russell Bourrienne Spring/Summer Menswear Collection
What: Designer Russell Bourrienne will show his spring/summer collection, marked with a pattern-heavy vintage feel, in a free runway show. After the show, enjoy a wine reception.

Ruby3 Fashion Ride
What: Combining style and exercise, Ruby3 bike-wear and hat designer Anna Lee will lead a leisurely bicycle ride though the trails of Minneapolis, an annual tradition of Fashion Week. Lee will also showcase her bike-friendly fashions before the trip begins.

Mimosa Reception with Voltage Designers
What: Meet and mingle with Voltage: Fashion Amplified designers Max Lohrbach, 2709, Allison Quinnell and Calpurnia Peach. See the runway designs up close and sip some mimosas. Fittings for custom designs will also be available at the reception.
