Crime Reports

East Harriet

March 17, between 7:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m., 3900 block of Aldrich Avenue South

A car was broken into sometime during the night, possibly through an unlocked door. The suspect dropped a cell phone while still inside the car, which the owner found the next morning. The phone was inventoried as possible evidence.

March 19, 10 a.m., Lake Harriet Park

A woman went for a walk around Lake Harriet and returned to her vehicle to find a broken window. The woman’s purse, which was hidden under a jacket in the car, was gone. When she called to cancel her credit cards, there had been six transactions made on two cards at the SuperAmerica station on Lyndale.

Fulton

Between March 18 at 5 p.m. and March 21 at 10 a.m., 5100 block of Drew Avenue South

Phone calls were made to a 79-year-old woman stating she had won a large amount of prize money. The man on the phone told her he needed money sent to him in Canada in order to receive the winnings. The woman, believing she won, sent two money orders, but never saw the prize money. The man continues to call back asking for more money.

March 23, 1:38 p.m. and 3:19 p.m., 3700 block of West 50th Street

An unidentified suspect pumped gas at a Holiday station without paying for it, then returned close to two hours later and once again pumped gas and drove off. The total cost was $63.46.

Kingfield

March 18, 4 p.m., 4100 block of Nicollet Avenue South

A bike was stolen from an 18-year-old woman while she was standing next to it. A man took her bike and rode off with it after the woman dropped her house key and stopped to pick it up.

Lowry Hill East     

March 19, 1 a.m., 2200 block of Lyndale Avenue South

A 35-year-old man who is known as a chronic offender was arrested after he stole several items from a SuperAmerica store. The suspect ate a hamburger in the store that was unpaid for, and took a case of Bud Light beer and a package of hot wings.

+ March 23, 9 p.m., 2500 block of Bryant Avenue South

A 23-year-old woman was grabbed from behind and thrown to the ground by two unknown men. They took the woman’s belongings, ran northwest and got into a vehicle leaving the area. The woman was not harmed.

West Calhoun

+ March 18, 5:25 p.m., 3100 block of Chowen Avenue South

A 25-year-old woman was arrested and charged after cutting a man with a knife. The man was bleeding from his left arm when officers arrived, but he refused medical treatment.

Whittier

March 20, 5 p.m., 600 block of West Lake Street

A suspect took a van from a 44-year-old man because he claimed the man owed money.  The van was recently purchased and all ownership papers were inside. The owner of the van said the suspect had been calling and saying he would not return the van until he pays $600.

March 21, between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m., 2700 block of Stevens Avenue South

A couple that had recently moved into a duplex was burglarized while they were gone overnight. It was the first night both residents were gone form the home and no car was parked in back. The burglar pried open the rear door and stole almost everything in the living room, including an X-Box and four new subwoofers.

Mar. 22, 7:30 p.m., 2000 block of Nicollet Avenue South

A 49-year-old man was arrested at CVS Pharmacy for stealing $74.24 worth of deodorant sticks. An employee saw the man place the deodorant into his pockets, then attempt to leave the business without paying for the merchandise. The employee was able to wrap his arms around the arrestee so he could not leave the store.

Windom

March 17, 6:45 p.m., 5900 block of Nicollet Avenue South

An unidentified male suspect robbed a TCF Bank. The man displayed a demand note to an employee, took the money and fled in an unknown direction.
