THE WEDGE — Swing by Highpoint Center for Printmaking on Saturday to join in a final free printmaking event before the studio and gallery moves to Lake Street.
Guests of all ages are invited to Highpoint, 2638 Lyndale Ave. S., to join visiting artist Carlos Amorales in a free printmaking session. It will be the last Free Ink Day at Highpoint before the printmaking center moves to its new location at 912 W. Lake St. in June.
Amorales is at work on a series of new prints to be published by Highpoint Editions. To celebrate his collaboration with Highpoint, Amorales will make his “liquid archive” of bird, wolf and airplane images available for use on Free Ink Day.
Highpoint opened in 2001 and has hosted Free Ink Day events at least four times a year since 2002. No prior printmaking experience is necessary to participate.
Last year, Highpoint launched a campaign to raise $3.5 million toward the purchase and renovation of the former home of DreamHaven Books on West Lake Street. As of January, the campaign had raised $2.1 million, the center reported on its website.
Renovation of the new studio and gallery space is currently underway.
Free Ink Day runs 1 p.m.–5 p.m. Saturday at Highpoint. The event is free and open to the public.
