Supporters of Kristen Boyne, 32, who said she was beaten Jan. 26 in Uptown for being a lesbian, will march for her Thursday from Bryant Lake Bowl to Emerson Avenue and back.
Boyne was walking to the Uptown Rainbow Foods near her home around 11 p.m. when two men verbally and physically assaulted her because of her sexual orientation, Boyne told police. Boyne was beaten unconscious and suffered injuries to her head.
Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
“So in response to this senseless act of hate and violence, we will march to demonstrate that queer women (and all women!) will not tolerate being victimized by hateful bigotry and violence,” said a MySpace page created for the solidarity march.
March organizers are still looking for volunteers and participants. For more information about the march, visit www.myspace.com/queerwomenmarch.
