Richfield man was swimming with a friend
LINDEN HILLS — A 19-year-old Richfield man who nearly drowned Sunday evening while swimming in Lake Calhoun remained hospitalized Monday, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Public Information Officer Lisa Kiava said the man remained in “very serious” condition Monday morning at Hennepin County Medical Center. The victim’s name had not been released pending notification of all family members, Kiava said.
Deputies were called shortly after 5:30 p.m. to Thomas Beach on the lake’s south shore. Witnesses said the victim was swimming with a friend when it appeared he became entangled in a rope or chain, Kiava said.
Lifeguards at the scene pulled the man from the water and performed CPR.
Kiava said the sheriff’s office was investigating evidence alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.
