Chiang Mai Thai hosting music festival

On July 20, a new event is coming that is sure to be as markedly a sign of summer as the Uptown Art Fair and will bring both sounds and smells to the Girard Avenue alley behind Calhoun Square. Sponsored by Chiang Mai Thai, the first annual Chiang Banger is to be as mixed in music genres as it is food.

Voted City Pages best Thai restaurant four years in a row, Chiang Mai Thai is throwing the free, all-ages concert event. In addition to traditional summer fare of hot dogs and hamburgers, the restaurant is contributing satays and fresh spring rolls prepared in authentic Thai tradition. In addition to the food available for purchase, a beer garden will boast brews from Summit Brewing Company.

But what is an alley party without music?

Whether the day is drizzling or dry, 10 local bands will take the stage from 2–10 p.m. with local comedian Chris Maddock as emcee.

From easy listening to indie to psychedelic, pop, rock and punk, the event will blast nearly as many genres of music as there are bands scheduled to play.

Bands include:

• Caroline Smith

• Ouija Radio

• Grey Skies

• Shortcuts

• Frontier

• F**k Knights

• Polara

• Solid Gold

• Bitch City

• The Mood Swings
