Minneapolis School Board candidate filing opens July 1

A two-week window opens July 1 to file for one of the three open Minneapolis School Board seats on the ballot this November.

Carla Bates and Jill Davis, members of the District Parent Advisory Council, as well as incumbent Board Member Lydia Lee were endorsed at the DFL convention in May at Edison High School. Incumbent Board Member Sharon Henry-Blythe reportedly also will run, but did not seek endorsement.

The School Board is comprised of seven members serving staggered four-year terms, so that either three or four seats come open every two years. The candidate filing period closes July 15.
Filings are accepted 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Friday at the Minneapolis Office of Elections, 350 S. Fifth St., room 1B. Candidate filings will be updated daily at www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/elections.
