Police warn of Southwest burglary trend

The Minneapolis Police Department is telling Southwest neighbors to keep an eye out for burglars — or at least to prepare themselves.

A release from the city says that eight burglaries have occurred since May 12, mainly in the Kenny and Armatage neighborhoods. All were garage burglaries and involved forced entry.

To be prepared, people should write down the make, model and serial number of all valuable items, the release said.

“Without these numbers,” the release said, “it is very difficult for us to recover your property or have enough evidence to prove the burglar has your items.”

Call 911 if you witness any suspicious activity.

Here are the blocks impacted by the break-ins, according to the release:
• 5000 Xerxes Ave S.
• 5900 Newton Ave S.
• 5800 Colfax Ave S.
• 300 Elmwood Place W.
• 5900 Washburn Ave S.
• 5900 Russell Ave S.
• 5600 Dupont Ave S.
• 5200 York Ave S.
