Journal welcomes new reporter

Editor’s note: I’m excited to announce that Cristof Traudes has joined the Journals’ news team. He was a star intern for us a couple of summers ago. He is taking on the beats formerly covered by Mary O’Regan who is now editor of Minnesota Bride. (Sarah McKenzie)

Hi — I’m Cristof Traudes, and I am your newest reporter on all things “green.”

I’m the one who’ll sit in on Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board meetings and the one who’ll be sharing stories about the city’s relationship with the environment. I’ll also be the point person for coverage of the Armatage, Fulton, Linden Hills, Tangletown and Windom neighborhoods, so if you live there and know of any exciting goings-on, please let me know.

Here’s a little bit about me:

I spent my early formative years in the Netherlands, speaking mostly Dutch but staying in touch with my American roots through my mother, a native of Missouri. When I was 12 years old, my family packed up and left for the States. From middle through high school, I lived in Columbia, Mo., which is also where I earned my degree in journalism from the University of Missouri just last year.

You may have seen my name before — I spent the summer of 2006 as one of the Journals’ interns, covering businesses, the City Council, housing, poverty and more. Enamored by my summer in Minnesota — the mild climate compared to hot and sticky Missouri was a big plus — I decided I wanted to move North after finishing school.

Last year, I was lucky enough to get a job as a copy editor and page designer in beautiful Duluth. While I enjoyed spending my days being creative with visuals, the reporting bug and my interest in the Twin Cities nabbed me.

So it’s great to be back in Minneapolis. I’m a big believer in the importance of newspapers playing a role in the community, so I hope to hear from many of you about the issues that concern or excite you.
