Crime report

Editor’s note: Alleged crimes against persons (assault, rape, murder, etc.) will feature the + symbol. Note, this compilation of crime reports provides highlights of area criminal activity. It’s not intended to be a comprehensive overview of Southwest crime.

East Isles

April 18, 12:01–8 a.m., 1000 block of W. Franklin Ave.

Unknown suspect(s) burglarized the apartment of a 25-year-old woman and a 20-year-old woman. No forced entry was found, but multiple items were missing from inside the residence. Some of the victims’ property was later recovered by another person and inventoried, along with pictures of the crime scene.

Kenwood

April 20, 1–4 a.m., 2500 block of Upton Ave.

An unknown suspect(s) stole the vehicle of a 57-year-old woman. The victim still has keys to the vehicle.

Kingfield

+ April 16, 8–8:30 p.m., W. 42nd St. and Nicollet Ave.

Two unknown suspects robbed and assaulted two 24-year-old women. One of the victims was pistol whipped by one of the suspects, but refused any medical treatment.

Between April 16, 11:30, and April 17, 8 a.m., 100 block of W. 44th St.

A 24-year-old woman parked her vehicle on the street overnight. The next morning, she discovered an unknown suspect(s) had stolen the vehicle. The victim still has possession of the keys.

+ April 19, 2:50 a.m., E. 42nd St. and Stevens Ave.

Three unknown suspects approached a 65-year-old man on the sidewalk and asked for money. Suddenly, one of the suspects hit the victim in the face with a closed fist while the other two suspects took money and the victim’s house keys from his pockets.

 

April 20, 3:30 p.m., E. 37th St. and Nicollet Ave.

Five female suspects approached a 45-year-old woman standing at a bus stop. One of the suspects grabbed the victim from behind, another threatened to assault her and a third took the victim’s wallet, cash, and ID and debit cards. All the suspects fled the scene on foot.

Linden Hills

Between April 9, 6 a.m., and April 12, 12:15 p.m., 4400 block of Washburn Ave.

An unknown suspect burglarized the residence of a 39-year-old woman. There was no sign of forced entry, and police were unable to find any evidence.

Between April 11, 8 a.m., and April 12, 9 p.m., 4200 block of Sheridan Ave.

A 50-year-old man noticed multiple items missing from his living room. Because there was no sign of forced entry, the victim believes the former resident of his apartment may still have a key to the residence. Police were unable to retrieve any usable evidence from the scene.

Lowry Hill

April 9, 1:15 p.m., 1000 block of Kenwood Parkway

Police responded to a burglary in progress at the apartment of a 29-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle that was later located by officers with the suspects still inside. All six suspects, including both males and females ranging in age from 20 to 25 years old, were arrested on burglary charges.

Lowry Hill East

April 16, 6:30-–9:50 p.m., 2900 block of Lyndale Ave.

A 22-year-old woman parked her vehicle on the street. When she returned, she discovered an unknown suspect(s) had stolen the vehicle. The victim found glass lying in the ground in the area her vehicle had been parked.

April 20, 4:55 a.m., 2900 block of Bryant Ave.

Police officers spotted a stolen vehicle belonging to a 27-year-old woman. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver began to flee the area. The vehicle stopped at Lyndale Avenue and 25th Street and the driver, a 44-year-old man, exited the vehicle and began running on foot. Officers caught up with the suspect and were able to take him into custody. The suspect was transported to Hennepin County Jail and charged with auto theft.

Lyndale

+ April 15, 1:30 a.m., 100 block of W. Lake St.

An unknown suspect stabbed a 30-year-old man in the neck with an unidentified object. The victim needed to be transported to Hennepin County Medical Center to receive treatment for the injury.

April 15, 7:40 p.m., W. 31st St. and Blaisdell Ave.

Officers pulled over a vehicle being driven by a 23-year-old man. The suspect was found to be in possession of suspected crack cocaine. The suspect was arrested and transported to Hennepin County Jail and charged with a narcotics violation.

+ April 17, 11:03 a.m., W. 31st St. and Pleasant Ave.

Two suspects were arrested in connection to the robbery of a juvenile male at knifepoint. Officers responding to the robbery located a vehicle that matched the description of that used by the suspects. The two suspects inside the vehicle, both juvenile males, were arrested and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Stevens Square

+ April 18, 6:15–6:40 p.m., E. Franklin Ave. and Nicollet Ave.

A 42-year-old man was stopped at a stoplight when an unknown suspect approached his vehicle. The suspect feigned that he had a gun and ordered the victim out of the vehicle. As the victim was getting out, the suspect hit the victim in the face. The suspect then got into the vehicle and drove off.

Tangletown

April 11, 6 a.m.–11 p.m., 4700 block of 1st Ave.

An unknown suspect kicked in the front door of a house belonging to a 45-year-old woman. Once inside, the suspect removed several items before fleeing the scene.

West Calhoun

April 16, 6:10 p.m., 3000 block of E. Calhoun Parkway

Officers pulled over a suspicious vehicle being driven by an 18-year-old woman. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers could smell the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. When the officers asked who had been smoking it, the driver and two other occupants, a 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old man, all admitted to possessing a small amount of marijuana. The suspects handed over the suspected marijuana to the officers. Each suspect was issued a citation for narcotics violations and released at the scene.

Whittier

April 11, 6:35 p.m., W. 28th St. and Pillsbury Ave.

Police stopped a 26-year-old man they saw spit on the sidewalk. Officers found the suspect to be in possession of an undisclosed amount of crack cocaine. The suspect was arrested and transported to Hennepin County Jail and booked on narcotics charges.

April 13, 10:30 p.m., E. 27th St. and Clinton Ave.

A 59-year-old woman was walking down the sidewalk when an unknown suspect ran up from behind and grabbed the victim’s purse. The suspect met up with another suspect about a block away both fled the scene on foot.

+ April 16, 9–10:04 p.m., W. 26th St. and Blaisdell Ave.

An unknown suspect stabbed a 21-year-old man with an unidentified object. The victim needed to receive medical treatment for the injuries sustained in the assault.

Between April 17, 7 p.m., and April 18, 8:30 a.m., 2400 block of Pillsbury Ave.

A 32-year-old man parked his vehicle in a parking lot. When the victim returned the next morning, he discovered the vehicle missing. The victim talked to a man, who appeared to be homeless, rummaging through a Dumpster and asked if he had seen anything. The man said he may have seen it driving away a about 10 minutes earlier but could not give any more information. There are no suspect(s).

April 19, 6–9 p.m., 2900 block of Blaisdell Ave.

A 49-year-old man parked his vehicle in a parking lot. When he returned, he found that an unknown suspect(s) had stolen the vehicle.
