Classmates of Vernice Hall — a seventh-grade Anwatin Middle School student who was killed by a stray bullet last year in north Minneapolis — have organized an event to honor her.
Stop the Violence Night, planned for April 18 at the Urban League in north Minneapolis, will include presentations of spoken-word poems and neighborhood photographs. Some of the photos will represent areas of peace, others areas of disruption.
Local musician EasyNow will perform with guest artists including Truthmaze, Tish Jones and El Guante.
The event is meant to “draw attention to the issue of violence in the community and show the immediate and tremendous effect it has on neighborhood families,” according to a prepared statement from Minneapolis Public Schools.
The event will take place from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. The urban League is located at 2100 Plymouth Ave. N.
