The ongoing Crosstown construction project on Interstate 35W and Highway 62 will require a series ramp and road closures affecting Southwest drivers in coming weeks, the Minnesota Department of Transportation reported.
The freeway exit ramp from eastbound Highway 62 to Lyndale Avenue South was scheduled to close by the end of January and remain closed until September 2009.
Next to close are the freeway exit ramps from Interstate 35W to the bridge at 46th Street. The freeway entrance ramps at 46th Street already are closed in preparation for the bridge’s demolition in March or April.
The bridge ramps reopen to northbound freeway traffic in October 2009 and southbound traffic in October 2010.
Minnehaha Parkway will close to auto traffic for about eight weeks beginning Jan. 28 while Interstate 35W is widened. Pedestrian and bike traffic will continue on the parkway, with only intermittent closures during construction.
Nighttime lane closures will continue throughout the winter. Drivers concerned about construction-related delays can call 511 or visit www.511mn.org for traffic and detour information.
