Through its Renewable Development Fund, Xcel Energy awarded a $2 million grant to Minneapolis and EyeOn Energy Ltd. Thursday for solar panels to be installed on the roof of the city’s Currie Equipment Facility.
The project, which the Public Utilities Commission has to approve, includes at least 3,000, 200-watt panels.
In all, Xcel Energy is contributing $23 million to 22 renewable energy projects.
The company also delivered a $30,000 check to the city at a City Council meeting Today. After the I-35W bridge collapse, the company wanted to contribute to the city. The donation will be used for emergency preparedness.
