Police are investigating the shooting deaths of two young men found early in the morning Dec. 1 on the 3100 block of Pleasant Ave. S.
The Hennepin County medical examiner tentatively identified the victims as Najib Omar, 25, of Minneapolis and Arie Musse Jama, 27, of St. Paul.
Omar was shot in the head around 7:30 a.m. and was found dead minutes later in the hallway of South Side Apartments at 3127 Pleasant Ave. S., according to a medical examiner report. Jama was shot at about the same time in the chest and neck and was found dead in an alleyway near the apartment building at 7:45 a.m.
Police believe the men were involved in an argument that led to the shooting, but department spokesman Sgt. Jesse Garcia said it did not appear as though the men shot each other. He could not comment on whether the men were armed or if weapons were recovered at the scene.
The incident is not believed to be a random event, he said. No suspects are in custody.
Police are urging anyone with information about the shootings to call the Minneapolis Police Department’s tip line at 612-692-8477.
