Rybak and Dolan support gun violence reduction proposal

The International Association of Chiefs of Police released a study earlier this fall that makes several recommendations for reducing gun violence in the United States. Today, Mayor R.T. Rybak and Police Chief Tim Dolan officially issued their support of the ideas in the report.

Among other items, the report makes the following recommendations:

–    Require judges and police officers to remove guns from situations of domestic violence and from people who have a history of mental illness, drug abuse or previous criminal problems and may pose a violent threat
–    Ban military-style assault weapons
–    Destroy guns that come into police possession once they’re no longer needed
–    Mandate the reporting of lost and stolen firearms
