Minneapolis was tops in the nation for its National Night Out efforts, according to the National Association of Town Watch, which sponsors the annual event.
This marks the fifth time in seven years that Minneapolis topped the list of large cities, this year finishing ahead of San Antonio, Boston and Houston.
This year, 62,000 residents of Minneapolis participated in the Aug. 7 event, at more than 1,117 neighborhood gatherings. That’s an 18 percent increase in citywide events, and a 58 percent in resident participation over last year’s rainy National Night Out.
The effort was coordinated by the Minneapolis Police Department’s Community Crime Prevention/SAFE Unit.
