It almost sounds like a bumpersticker: “Artists do it in public.” “It,” in this case, is art.
If you’d like to learn how to create public art, you can do so at the Sept. 19 meeting of the Minneapolis Art Commission from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the lecture room at the Walker Art Center, 1750 Hennepin Ave. S.
The meeting is for artists, citizens and community groups interested in creating and fostering public art in the city. “Navigating Minneapolis Public Art Policies and Making Public Art Happen” will include a panel discussion and question-and-answer session.
Panelists include Mary Altman (Public Arts Administrator, City of Minneapolis), Jack Becker (Forecast Public Artworks), Lisa Elias (artist), Ben Heywood (Soap Factory and Minneapolis Art Commissioner and Public Art Advisory Board member), Michelle Martin (Peace Foundation), and Sara Linnes Robinson (Kingfield Neighborhood Association).
