Police were still searching for suspects in the killing of Whittier artist Kira Simonian earlier this month, days after her body was found inside her 2435 1st Ave. S. apartment.
An apartment manager found her June 28, one day after she was last seen.
Simonian died from “complex homicidal violence,” according to a report from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office.
“Basically that means her life was ended by violent acts of another person and those were not as simple as a gunshot wound,” said Minneapolis Police Department spokeswoman Lt. Amelia Huffman.
Huffman said the exact cause of death could not be revealed because it was important to the investigation.
Simonian’s husband, Matthew Gretz, took a business flight to New York City on the morning of June 28, but returned and was cooperating with police, Huffman said. She said no one is in custody. Police believe Simonian’s death was an isolated incident.
Simonian’s resume states she was a graduate student at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Chicago’s DePaul University in 1998 and a bachelor’s degree in painting from the School of Art Institute in Chicago in 2006.
She did freelance work for Target Corp. and displayed her work at numerous local art shows.
