Remodeled Southwest homes will be on full display this Sunday during the second annual Remodeled Home Tour, a neighborhood fundraiser that is set to give back to four Southwest institutions.
The tour will run from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., featuring 14 homes in various Southwest neighborhoods. Tour-goers will receive a map of featured homes that they can visit. The homes on display hope to show off a tasteful blend of rich history and modern living.
“It’s a chance for our neighbors to share what they have accomplished,” said Shahnaz Coyer, president of the Lynnhurst Neighborhood Association Board. “It connects our neighborhoods and celebrates what we have achieved.
“We are trying to keep the neighborhood’s character and preserve the cultural beauty and historical look of the homes,” she said. “It’s about maintaining the historical and architectural integrity of a neighborhood and making it last. People are not extravagant, but they are usually doing basic stuff to make their homes neat.”
The Lynnhurst Neighborhood Association Board is adopting 4949 Newton Ave. S., one of the homes on the tour. People from the board will be at the house during the tour and talk to tour-goers about the Lynnhurst neighborhood.
Homes entered into the tour pay a fee, and there aren’t strict criteria in order for a home to be included in the tour, Coyer said.
Suzanne Tacheny, a first time tour host, will show off 4621 Aldrich Ave. S. She is excited to show off her restored kitchen, which was an affordable update of old-school architecture.
“Some of the kitchens are $100,000 upgrades that I’ve seen,” she said. “Our contractor kept the original floor and cabinets, and it still has the elements of the original kitchen.”
Tickets for the tour are $9 online and can be purchased at www.remodeledhometour.com. On the day of the tour, tickets are $12 and can be purchased at Great Minneapolis Real Estate on the corner of 54th Street and Penn Avenue.
