As benefit runs go, this one may be the best named: the "Get Your Rear in Gear" 5K to raise funds to fight colorectal cancer.
The Colon Cancer Coalition hope to attract more than 500 participants to the adult 5K and kids half-K, which will begin at the Lake Harriet Bandshell on Saturday, March 26 at 8:30 a.m.
The event kicks off six weeks of awareness events. Last year, an estimated 56,000 people died from colon cancer, according to the coalition. Early detection results in a 90 percent cure rate. Screenings are recommended beginning at age 50.
Funds will benefit the Minnesota Colon and Rectal Foundation, which does public education and outreach.
