Minneapolis set a national record for 2006 National Night Out (NNO) activities with community groups hosting around 934 events during a three-day period in early August.
All told, more than 39,000 participated in NNO events - more than 10 percent of the city's population, according to Minneapolis officials.
During National Night Out, Minneapolis neighborhood watch groups, block clubs and other community groups get together to network, celebrate and discuss neighborhood safety issues.
In 2005, more than 34 million people through the country participated in NNO activities.
