Councilmember Betsy Hodges (13th Ward) will host a budget meeting Nov. 28 for Ward 13 residents to learn about the fundamentals of the budgeting process, ask questions and discuss priorities.
In determining the annual budget, the city decides how to spend the billion-plus dollars it collects every year from property taxes, service fees and state aid.
Mayor R.T. Rybak presented his recommended 2007 city budget in August to the City Council, which has until December to make changes to the spending plan.
The ward meeting will start with a presentation on the budget by city Finance Department staff.
Issues in this year's debate include whether to spend more money hiring police officers, extending library hours or breaking ground on various street projects.
The Ward 13 meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Lynnhurst Community Center, 1345 W. Minnehaha Parkway. The proposed budget is available for viewing online at www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/city-budget/
