Kenwood baseball field undergoing renovation

Renovation of a ball field in Kenwood Park, 2101 Franklin Ave., including replacement of dilapidated benches and fencing, with minor landscaping, is currently underway after being stalled temporarily by neighbors who had voiced concerns about the improvements.

Some Kenwood Isles Area Association (KIAA) members charged that the $25,000 plan had evolved beyond its original scope, with major changes such as additional benches, extensive fencing and concrete paths typical of much larger more prominent ball fields.

After discussions with residents, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board scaled back the plans, soothing neighborhood complaints.

KIAA is contributing $10,000 from its Phase I of NRP money to the project, with the remainder of the cost being paid by the Park Board and the West Side Athletic Council.
