On Saturday, Aug. 19, the Twin Cities will host its first annual Parade of Community Gardens. Organized by community garden program GardenWorks, the event is a self-guided tour of 55 community gardens around the metropolitan area.
Parade-goers are invited to take as much time as they want at each stop to observe, learn and appreciate each garden's individual mix of flowers, fruits, herbs, native grasses and vegetables.
Thirteen stops are located in Southwest Minneapolis, including LaSalle Gardens, 1729 LaSalle Ave. S.; Emily Peake Memorial Garden, 1913 3rd Ave. S.; and Whittier's Saint Stephen's Community Garden, 2211 Clinton Ave. S.
Anyone can participate. An eight-page brochure containing maps and descriptions of all the gardens is available for free download at www.gardenworksMN.org.
The parade will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information, call GardenWorks at 278-7123 or e-mail [email protected].
