The Whittier Alliance (WA) annual meeting will be held on Thursday, March 30 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Whittier International Elementary School, 2620 Grand Ave. S. During the informal portion of the meeting, which will last until 7 p.m., community members can socialize, enjoy light refreshments and browse information tables.
Later, newly elected Library Board member Hussein Samatar, who is also the executive director of the African Development Center, will speak. As mayoral appointee, Samatar is one of the highest-ranking Somalis in the U.S. He’ll talk about his community involvement and vision for the Library Board.
Afterwards, the WA will turn to official business with the election of five new board directors. WA will also review the organization’s updated bylaws. Three Whittier neighbors and businesses nominated by residents will be honored for their contributions to the neighborhood. A slide show of Whittier images will be shown before and after the business segment of the meeting.
