More than 550 students, along with 60 volunteers, participated in an all-day all-school winter Olympics at Susan B. Anthony Middle School on Feb. 10.
During the week, students also learned about the international Olympic games, this year held in Torino, Italy.
The Anthony Middle School Olympics were developed by physical education teacher Rochelle Patton and opened with a ceremonial torch lighting in which teams of students carried tiki torches in a relay, eventually lighting a larger torch in the center of the foothill behind the school.
The 11 events included bobsled, broomball, luge, curling, figure skating, ice hockey, snowshoeing, downhill skiing, and paper and snow sculpture. Students rotated among each competitive event every 20 minutes.
