Minneapolis' 2005 National Night Out events took first place among large cities nationwide, according to the National Association of Town Watch. Minneapolis also won the award in 2001, 2002 and 2004.
The 22nd annual crime-prevention and community-building event took place on a sticky Aug. 2 evening. The event paired residents and business owners with Minneapolis Police to focus on crime-prevention efforts.
This year, more than 46,000 people participated at 841 neighborhood parties. That's up from 38,000 participants in 2004. The Department says the event is one of the most successful NNO showings in years.
The Department's Community Crime-Prevention/SAFE representatives coordinate NNO activities with community members and volunteers.
