Theft from convertibles prompts East Isles alert

Crime-Prevention Specialist Jennifer Waisanen issued a crime alert for the East Isles neighborhood following three theft from motor vehicle reports in early May.

In each incident, suspects got inside the victim’s car by cutting the convertible top, then stealing CDs, cell phones and radios. The locations of the reported crimes are:

  • The 2600 block of Irving Avenue South,

  • Humboldt Avenue South & The Mall,

  • The 2800 block of Knox Avenue South.

To guard against this type of theft, Waisanen suggests using a garage if possible and making sure it’s secured. If entering an underground parking garage, be sure that when entering, no one else follows your car inside.

In addition, Waisanen said it’s important to not leave valuables in the car, lock vehicles at all times and report any suspicious behavior by calling 911. She said suspicious behavior includes people peering into car windows, cutting through yards, or walking in the street or in parking lots near cars.
