The Jones Harrison Residence, 3700 Cedar Lake Ave., got the go ahead to expand after the City Council rejected a neighbor's appeal to deny the needed permit.
The 10-0 Council vote April 29 upheld a Planning Commission decision that allows Jones Harrison to widen its west wing. The construction will not add new units, but make the existing 32 assisted living units more spacious and add private bathrooms.
Neighbor Douglas Neimann appealed the Planning Commission decision. He and other neighbors complained about traffic, noise and light pollution from Jones Harrison. They said they worried that Jones Harrison would use the new space to add beds in the future.
The Council voted to add a requirement that new exterior lights shine downward, minimizing light pollution.
