Lagoon condo/office project goes to the city April 25

The developers seeking to build a condo/retail/office and public plaza complex on the parking lot behind the Lagoon Theater, 1320 Lagoon Ave., will go before the Minneapolis Planning Commission April 25, 4:30 p.m., at City Hall, 350 S. 5th St. in room 317.

The project, located in the Wedge neighborhood, will include a 12-story, 96-unit condo building directly behind the old Walker Library, 2901 Hennepin Ave. S. Developers would also add a five-story, 50,000-square-foot office complex between the Midtown Greenway and Lagoon Theater; the theater would roughly double to 1,550 seats.

The project also features a 12,000-square-foot mostly paved "urban" plaza between the condos and offices, 27,000 square feet of retail and an underground, three-story, 730-spot parking ramp.

The development would exceed the current four-story height limit, but developers say there will be less density than if they built a four-story project covering the entire parcel.
