The Lake Harriet Kite Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 15 from noon to 4 p.m., on Lake Harriet. The Minnesota Kite Society, one of the event sponsors, will fly large kites and help those new to kite flying.
The event also includes horse-and-wagon rides, as well as ice skating, ice fishing and snacks. Participants can bring their own kites or buy one at the event. Representatives from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, another event sponsor, will give ice-fishing and snowshoeing lessons and have equipment on hand for public use.
Other event sponsors include the East Harriet Farmstead Neighborhood Association, The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Fishing in the Neighborhood Program (FIN).
