If you have a child who will enter kindergarten next fall, or would like to change his or her K-8 school, mark Saturday, Jan. 8 on your calendar: it's the day of the Minneapolis Public Schools' School Choice Fair.
At the 9 a.m.-2 p.m. event, you can pick up information and chat with principals, staff and parents from all city elementary and middle schools, and charter schools. (The high school fair happened in October.)
The fair will be held at the Hyatt Regency, 1300 Nicollet Mall.
The event is a bit later than in past years because the district had to nail down its school-closing plan. Families will have until Feb. 28 to submit their school request cards.
You don't have to go to the fair to fill out a request card; the idea is to provide a convenient one-stop shop.
Individual schools will have open houses through Feb. 28; look for a list in the Jan. 10 Journal.
If you have questions about the School Choice Fair or school request cards, call 668-1840.
