Parks need your old skates

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is asking residents to donate old skates and hockey equipment they no longer use so kids can borrow them to play on neighborhood rinks.

Collections will run Dec. 18-Feb. 21. People may leave donations at their neighborhood park, the Parade Ice Garden, 600 Kenwood Parkway, or the Park Board headquarters, 2117 W. River Road N.

The skates don't need to have laces. The Park Board supplies new ones after the skates are cleaned and their blades sharpened.

Rink flooding will begin as soon as the ground freezes.
