I-35W/Creek bridge meeting set for Oct. 18

According to City Councilmember Scott Benson (11th Ward), the state Transportation Department wants to expand the I-35W Bridge over Minnehaha Creek -- and Benson wants citizen feedback about a possible sound wall and bridge redesigns.

To find out what neighbors think, Benson is hosting a public meeting Monday, Oct. 18 7:30-9 p.m. at Fuller Park, 4800 Grand Ave. Representatives from the state and Minneapolis Park Board will be on hand to answer questions.

The bridge was last in the news a few years ago when the state redecked it, blocking much of the light that once shone down on Minnehaha Parkway. One new plan would call for the bridge's opening between north and southbound lanes to widen from 8 feet to 14 feet -- but the bridge deck would widen by 20 feet on each side, or 40 feet overall.
