Loring Bike Bridge construction closes I-94 on-ramp

City workers began construction Sept. 27 on the Loring Bike Bridge, a 14-foot-wide walking/biking bridge to link Uptown to downtown at Lyndale Avenue and the I-94 entrance ramps.

Because of bridge-building, city construction crews have closed the eastbound I-94 ramp off Lyndale until Nov. 15. Crews will also periodically close driving lanes on the ramp and on Lyndale between Franklin Avenue West and I-94.

One end of the bridge is where Bryant and Aldrich avenues meet north of Franklin. The bridge runs parallel to the elevated highway ramp and passes over Lyndale. Then, a V-shaped ramp curls riders and walkers back down to Lyndale Avenue, where they can take the path into Loring Park.

The path into downtown between Groveland Terrace and Oak Grove Street will also be redone as part of the project.

Construction will be suspended from December until April 2005 but should be completed next spring. For more information, visit www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/public-works/cip/hen-lyn-bike/.
