The Stevens Square Community Organization will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday, June 29 at 7 p.m. at the Van Dusen Mansion, 1900 LaSalle Ave. S.
At the meeting, the entire nine-member board will be up for election. Members will also chose a new board chair since current Chair Gene Blackledge has served for three years and, according to SSCO rules, cannot run for reelection.
The neighborhood’s borders are Lyndale and Franklin avenues, I-35W and I-94. To run for election, individuals must live, work or own property in the neighborhood.
The SSCO will also discuss its survey of neighborhood residents; over 200 residents responded. The survey questioned residents about what behavior should be discouraged in the neighborhood — drug dealing, public drunkenness and prostitution — and what behavior should be encouraged, such as friendliness, community involvement and getting to know one’s neighbor.
Another topic will be fund-raising strategies for the coming year since SSCO can’t rely on Neighborhood Revitalization Project money exclusively. Leaders hope to raise all funds from within Stevens Square.
