LaSalle Avenue stretch closed until November

LaSalle Avenue from Grant Street to Franklin Avenue will be closed to through traffic while the street is being rebuilt. The one-way stretch through Stevens Square is heavily used by drivers headed southbound from downtown during evening rush hour.

The closure should increase traffic on Nicollet, Lyndale and Hennepin avenues, all alternative southbound routes.

The city expects the street to reopen by late November. This stretch of LaSalle was originally built in 1938 and resurfaced and widened in 1964. The city is installing new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drain inlets and road surfaces.
