Windom robberies spark alert

The Minneapolis Police SAFE unit for the Windom neighborhood has issued a crime alert regarding robberies occurring in and around the City Limits Apartments on the 5900 block of Nicollet Avenue South.

The alert stated that since early January, six robberies have been reported from 59th Street to 62nd Street, four occurring in the City Limits apartment complex.

Suspects demanded money; two of the City Limits robberies involved a gun. The alert specifies that police believe other area robberies have gone unreported.

Suspects are described as two to four black males, from 15 to 25 years old, wearing hooded winter jackets or hooded sweatshirts.

The SAFE team recommends residents refrain from carrying large amounts of cash, travel in well-lit areas, and if approached, comply with robbers' demands, and call 911 immediately afterward. The team also suggests forming a block club to increase safety.
