Whittier crime sweep

Fifth Precinct Crime-Prevention Specialist Shun Tillman says a crime sweep was done between Aug. 22 and Sept. 12 in Whittier’s Washburn Fair Oaks Park, 200 E. 24th St., due to complaints of criminal activity.

The sweep was a cooperative effort between many 5th Precinct units, including the SAFE crime-prevention team, the antidrug Community Response Team, beat officers, Hennepin County Probation Officers and the Park Police.

The results: more than 100 suspicious people were screened for outstanding warrants or any probation violations. There were seven narcotics arrests, 12 alcohol violations, nine warrant-related arrests, three disorderly conduct arrests seven loitering arrests and two graffiti arrests.

Police are asking residents to help and notify them of any suspicious activity by calling 911. CARAG Sept. 7, 4:35 a.m., 3000 block of Bryant Ave. An unknown suspected stuck a Star Tribune delivery driver in the left eye with a gun. The deliveryman started driving and called the police. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Sept. 7, between 9:15 a.m. and noon, 3000 block of Aldrich Ave. Someone broke into an apartment and stole a computer with accessories, a cell phone, $140 in change, a 500-minute calling card, Calvin Klein and Guess brand watches, two cameras with film, a laundry basket, 38 items of clothing, lotion, perfume and hair products. Sept. 18, between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., 3400 block of Aldrich Ave. Unknown suspects entered a residence and stole a Sony Playstation, memory cards, five video games, three DVDs, one CD Walkman, one CD case and six CDs.

Cedar-Isles-Dean Between 5 p.m. Sept. 2 and 10 p.m. Sept. 3, 2900 block of Dean Pkwy. Someone stole a 1987 black moped, which was parked on the street. Between 8:30 p.m. Sept. 5 and 5:15 p.m. Sept. 7, 2400 block of Cedar Shore Dr. Someone broke into a residence and stole a two Heat-N-Glo gas fireplaces worth $3,500 apiece, a vintage porcelain sink worth $2,200, a saw and a drill. Sept. 8, 3:55 p.m., 3000 block of Excelsior Ave. Someone stole a victim’s wallet from her purse, which she left in her shopping cart. Her wallet contained her credit card, $35 and a driver’s license.

East Calhoun Between 12:30 p.m. Sept. 6 and 12:50 a.m. Sept. 7, 3500 block of Irving Ave. A victim returned to his residence to find his front door unlocked and a window screen forced in. Stolen from his residence was a laptop and $20 in change. Sept. 7, 10:20 a.m., 35th St. and Humboldt Ave. Someone robbed a female victim at knifepoint and stole her purse containing $20, keys, credit cards, a driver’s license and a cell phone.

East Harriet Sept. 21, 8:48 p.m., Anna Marie’s Bakeshop and Eatery, 4300 block of Bryant Ave. Dana Jeffery Baskett, 41, was arrested after she was caught by officers burglarizing the business. A nearby resident reported the burglary in progress. Baskett was booked at Hennepin County Jail.

Fulton Sept. 4, 9 p.m., Michelangelo’s Pizza, 3000 block of W. 50th St. Someone stole approximately $265 from the cash register. Sept. 5, between 8:20 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., 47th St. and Zenith Ave. Someone stole a silver 1989 Chevrolet parked on the street.

Kenwood Sept. 5, 10 p.m., 22nd St. and Lake of the Isles Pkwy. Someone stole a victim’s purse, containing a wallet, $20 and a Nokia cell phone.

Kingfield Sept. 3, 3:45 p.m., 1st Ave. and 40th St. Officers responded to a shooting, and a 15-year-old male victim was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment. Sept. 3, 3:36 p.m., 46th St. and Nicollet Ave. A 16-year-old male victim was approached by two suspects who announced they were with the Rolling 30s gang and demanded his LA Clippers basketball jersey, Adidas tennis shoes and cell phone.

Between 10:30 p.m. Sept. 16 and 1:10 p.m. Sept. 17, 3700 block of Nicollet Ave. Someone entered a resident through a roof-level window and stole a 12-gauge shotgun, an ammunition belt and a range bag. Between 10 p.m. Sept. 17 and 2:50 a.m. Sept. 18, 4400 block of Blaisdell Ave. Someone stole a red 1989 Buick LaSabre that had been parked on the street. Sept. 22, 9:48 p.m., 4300 block of Nicollet Ave. A victim parked her tan 1990 Buick Park Avenue on the street. She was outside, when she observed someone driving north on Nicollet in her car.

Lowry Hill Sept. 8, between 8 a.m. and 12:55 p.m., 1700 block of Irving Ave. Someone broke into a residence by cutting the screen in the kitchen and stole a coin bank model of Buckingham Palace, three gold and jeweled rings, a bracelet and two laptops.

Lyndale Sept. 3, 12:30 a.m., 3000 block of Pleasant Ave. two victims were robbed at gunpoint by unknown suspects who stole their wallets and $105 and then fled in a vehicle. Sept. 3, between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m., 3000 block of Grand Ave. Devon Griffen Seivers. 21, was arrested and charged with a narcotics violation. Seivers was booked at Hennepin County Jail. Sept. 3, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., 3300 Stevens Ave. Someone pushed up the screen on the kitchen window in the rear of an apartment and stole a VCR, caller ID and a stereo from the residence. Sept. 19, 3:40 p.m., 32nd St. and Stevens Ave. Someone stole a female victim’s purse, containing $900 and a driver’s license. Sept. 20, between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., 3400 block of Pillsbury Ave. Someone entered the front entrance of a dwelling and stole a watch and a wallet containing a driver’s license, bankcard and $27. Sept. 20, between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., 3500 block of Harriet Ave. Someone broke into a residence and stole $43, a jewelry box, eight rings, a watch and a cell phone.

Stevens Square Sept. 3, 3:04 a.m., Groveland Ave. and LaSalle Ave. Someone grabbed a victim’s purse containing her driver’s license and a cell phone. Sept. 3, 3:15 a.m., 19th St. and 3rd Ave. Five black males approached a male victim from behind; one held a gun to his head and forced him to the ground. The group stole his jacket, his shoes and $60.

Tangletown Sept. 5, between 9:30 a.m. and 10 p.m., 51st St. and Lyndale Ave. A victim couldn’t get his 1991 red Buick Skylark to start, and he accidentally locked it with the keys still in the ignition. When he returned later, the car was gone. Between 7 a.m. Sept. 6 and 6 p.m. Sept. 7, 600 block of 53rd St. Someone stole a red 1995 Buick Century from an underground parking lot.

Wedge Sept. 18, 12:01 a.m., 22nd St. and Colfax Ave. Two unknown suspects robbed a 23-year-old victim at gunpoint, stealing his cell phone and $15. Between 11:30 p.m. Sept. 20 and 12:30 p.m. Sept. 21, 1900 block of Aldrich Ave. Someone parked his 1994 blue Cadillac Seville on the street overnight and returned to find it stolen.

Whittier Sept. 2, between 8:10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., 2400 block of Harriet Ave. Someone broke into a residence and stole a CD/DVD player, $25 in change, 10 CDs and a checkbook. Sept. 2, 5 p.m., 24th St. and 3rd Ave. Jason Michael Sokolofsky, 19 and Jaime Isaac Smith, 31, were seen driving in a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant, stolen from the Windom neighborhood. They were stopped, and Smith was arrested and charged with tampering with a vehicle and driving with a revoked license; Sokolofsky was arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft and a narcotics violation, after he was found to possess suspected crack cocaine. Sokolofsky was booked at Hennepin County Jail. Sept. 2, 8:30 p.m., Lake St. and Pillsbury Ave. A victim left her wallet on the counter at the Dollar Store and found it missing. Her wallet contained her Social Security card, her driver’s license, $600 credit cards and an American Airlines ticket. Sept. 3, 1 p.m., 26th St. and Nicollet Ave. Someone stole a victim’s wallet, containing a bankcard and $10 in pesos. Sept. 4, between 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., 2500 block of 1st Ave. Someone forced entry into an apartment and stole a canvas backpack, a stereo, and two men’s mountain bikes, 200 CDs, two VCRs and a 13-inch color TV. Sept. 5, 8:30 p.m., 24th St. and Stevens Ave. Franklin Laverne Fineday, 20 and Alvin Jamison Lee, 29, were arrested and charged with narcotics violation. A 20-year-old male was tagged with loitering with intent, but Fineday and Lee were booked at Hennepin County Jail. Between 5 p.m. Sept. 5 and 8:30 a.m. Sept. 8, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, 2500 block of Stevens Ave. Someone broke into an office and stole four Toshiba Laptops, worth a combined total of $4,800. Sept. 6, 9 p.m., 100 block of 26th St. Joseph Terry, 54, was arrested after an officer witnessed him toss two suspected rocks of crack on the ground. He was charged with a narcotics violation and booked at the Hennepin County Jail. Sept. 7, between 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., 2800 block of Garfield Ave. Someone stole a camping stove, Teva sandals and eight CD ROMs from a rear enclosed porch of a residence. Sept. 16, 12:15 a.m., Lake St. and Nicollet Ave. An officer observed Michael Lashun Lowe, 18, riding his bike the wrong way on Lake Street, without bike lights. It took several squad cars to stop him and once stopped it took several officers to force him to lie on the ground and take his hands from his pockets. Before being subdued, officers’ witnessed Lowe throw a baggie, containing smaller baggies filled with marijuana, on the ground. He was also in possession of $215. Lowe was arrested and charged with a narcotics violation and booked at Hennepin County Jail. Sept. 16, 4:20 p.m., 2700 block of Blaisdell Ave. Derrick Kim Patterson, 39 and Lanika Melvira Mcbridge, 19, were arrested and charge with a narcotics violation. Both were booked at Hennepin County Jail. Sept. 17, 11:50 p.m., 2500 Blaisdell Ave. Suspects approached a 22-year-old male victim with a handgun and demanded money. The victim turned over his cell phone, and the suspects fled. Between 10:30 p.m. Sept. 17 and 9 a.m. Sept. 18, 2800 block of Pleasant Ave. A victim parked and locked her brown 1989 Buick Century and returned to find it stolen. The car had numerous bumper stickers and "for sale" signs. Sept. 18, 10:30 p.m., 2300 block of Blaisdell Ave. Officers executed a narcotics search warrant and arrested Mano Mohamed Omar, 44; Giama Jaldha, 48; Yasir Mohamed Ahmed, 25; Mohamed Ahmed Maani, 43; and Abdirizak Ibrahik Alshire, 37 with narcotics violations, for the narcotics found at the scene. Between 4 p.m. Sept. 18 and 9 a.m. Sept. 19, 2600 block of Garfield Ave. A victim parked his black 2000 Honda Coupe in the back parking lot of an apartment complex and returned to find it stolen. Sept. 20, 9:30 a.m., Wedge Co-op, 2100 block of Lyndale Ave. Eddie Markeith Frazier, 35, was arrested and charged with theft by swindle after stealing a battery charger, a detoxification pack and $20 in additional merchandise. Sept. 21, 12:35 a.m., 100 block of Lake St. Officers responded to an assault but found their suspect, Lawrence Jarmaine Daniels, 25, in the possession of narcotics. He was arrested and charged with a narcotics violation and attempt to cause bodily harm, and he was booked at Hennepin County Jail. Sept. 21, 8:46 p.m., 27th St. and Blaisdell Ave. A suspect robbed a victim at gunpoint and stole $15, a bath towel and a jacket.

Windom Sept. 2, 6:30 a.m., 5900 block of Nicollet Ave. Someone stole a 2001 gray Mitsubishi Galant, with the keys left in it. Sept. 5, between 2:50 a.m. and 10 a.m., 200 block of 62nd Ave. Someone broke into an apartment and stole $400, two purses, a ring, two earrings, a bankcard, a checkbook and a driver’s license. Sept. 5, between 7:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., 6100 block of Lyndale Ave. Someone broke into a residence through a rear bedroom window while the occupant had taken her daughter to the bus stop and stole a check book and check card, and a driver’s license. Between 9 p.m. Sept. 7 and 8:30 a.m. Sept. 8, 20 Diamond Lake Rd. Someone stole a light blue 1995 Plymouth Neon, which was parked on the street. Sept. 18, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., 100 block of 59th St. Someone stole a white 1993 Chevrolet Blazer, which the victim had parked at a friend’s house.
