Libraries to close for one day on August 17 for computer move

All Minneapolis Public Libraries will close Saturday Aug. 17 so workers can move a computer system to an interim location. The closure is part of plans to demolish the old Central Library and build a new one on the same site.

The move will also stop remote access to the library's website, catalogue, InfoLine and phone lines for the entire weekend, said Kristi Gibson, library spokeswoman.

"If people call, they will only get a ringing -- no message," she said. "The plan is to have everything up and running Monday [Aug. 19] morning."

The Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall, closed to most activities Aug. 2. The circulation desk will be open for material returns and request pick-up Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. -6 p.m., Aug. 5-16. The InfoLine (630-6000) will be available.

The Central Library will move to a temporary home at Marquette Plaza, 250 Marquette Ave. S., open for limited service starting Monday, Aug. 19, with access through the skyway level. The hours will be Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
