The Whittier Alliance staff will present the draft action plan for Phase II of its Neighborhood Revitalization Program at a special board meeting on Thursday July 18, 7 p.m. Whittier School, at West 26th Street and Grand Avenue.
The board will vote on the plan at its regular monthly meeting, Thursday July 25, 6:30 p.m. at the same location.
The Alliance staged 30 focus groups including 200 participants to create the plan. The surveys indicate that more than half of those who participated did not feel safe on neighborhood streets at night and that they believed the quality of life for those 18 and under is fair or poor.
Five groups focusing on safety, youth, economic development, housing and community building worked on the action plan.
Among safety-improvement ideas are more police, better lighting and walking patrols. Improvements for kids include more park activities and more arts, theater and service opportunities. After the board approves the plan, it will be presented at community meetings.
