A cleanup for Uptown
For the past few years, the Uptown Association has been cleaning up the area with local businesses and residents.
The Uptown Clean-Up Event will happen 9 a.m.–1 p.m., June 22 as part of the Uptown Association’s Adopt-A-Block program. The event will cover 19 blocks where businesses are located. Participation is open to all businesses, employees, local residents and anyone else who wants to take part.
The Uptown Association will provide free cleaning supplies, T-shirts, snacks and refreshments to those in attendance. Businesses and community members will clean their blocks or be assigned areas to cover.
Participants are asked to commit an hour or two of their time. Similar events have been going on for the past four years and this year’s project is an expansion to the Adopt-A-Block program already underway.
Each year, the event has changed a little. This year’s clean up will focus on cleaning building exteriors, property and blocks by picking up trash, pollutants and removing graffiti.
Uptown Association Executive Director Maude Lovell said, “You don’t need to do anything but come to the site.”
Community members are encouraged to show up at the Uptown Association, 1406 W. Lake St., for the event. For more information, call 823-4581.
