Bryn Mawr to host annual meeting

BRYN MAWR — The Bryn Mawr Neighborhood Association (BMNA) holds its annual meeting and potluck dinner
6 p.m. May 13 at Bryn Mawr Community School, 252 Upton Ave. S.

Neighbors will elect a vice president and treasurer to the BMNA Board of Directors, as well as representatives from areas 1, 3, 5 and 7.

New Greenway representative chosen

CARAG — Neighbors elected resident Josh Tolkan their new representative to the Midtown Greenway Coalition at the April 21 CARAG meeting.

Tolkan replaces former coalition representative Brendan Jordan, who stepped down from the post. Thirteen neighborhood groups along the Midtown Greenway have representatives on the coalition board.

Board members elected

KINGFIELD — Seven board members were elected in April to the Kingfield Neighborhood Association. They are Chris Sur, Arthur Knowles, Tom Parent, Dean Muldoon, Marchall Onsrud, Jeff Bajek and Scot Bordon. Each member will serve a two-year term.

Whittier officers elected

WHITTIER — Erica Christ was re-elected chair of the Whittier Alliance Board of Directors April 23.

In their first monthly meeting after the neighborhood’s annual meeting, board members also selected Chris Gottshall for vice chair. Tom Bissen and Elizabeth Grzechowiak were re-elected treasurer and secretary of the board, respectively.

MCAD lot approved

WHITTIER — A Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) proposal to build a surface parking lot near the intersection of Stevens Avenue and West 26th Street won approval from the Board of Directors.

MCAD proposed the lot to replace 140 parking spaces it will lose when its lease of space in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts parking lot ends in January 2010.

In previous discussions on the project, some board members expressed concerns that the 100-space lot would not meet MCAD’s parking needs and might exacerbate street-parking issues in the surrounding neighborhood. There also was concern a residence in the neighborhood would be demolished to make way for the lot.

MCAD officials said they would move the house instead of demolish it. They also added green space and a sculpture garden to the lot’s design.

Lowry Hill holding neighborhood elections

LOWRY HILL — The Lowry Hill Neighborhood Association (LHNA) will hold its annual meeting Tuesday, May 19 at the Walker Art Center. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

LHNA will hold elections for the board of directors. There are five open seats on the board and five board members likely running for re-election.

Volunteer for Linden Hills Festival

LINDEN HILLS — The organizers of the annual Linden Hills Festival are looking for “disposal monitors” who will staff trash stations at the May 16 festival and help people figure out what can be recycled or composted. The event is intended to be zero waste so nearly all materials should be diverted from the trash.

Last year’s event, which attracted 3,000 attendees, generated only two small bags of trash, according to organizers.

The volunteer shifts are two hours long. The event runs 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Those interested should contact Laurie Foster at [email protected] or 929-3214.

Tangletown holding annual meeting

The annual meeting and election of board members of the Tangletown Neighborhood Association will be Monday, May 18, from 7–9 p.m. at Fuller Park, 48th & Grand. All residents are encouraged to attend, meet other neighbors, hear about upcoming events, vote for board members, and offer ideas to improve the neighborhood.
